Chapter - 2
TENSES
There are three kinds of tenses. Past, Present and Future.
Past is what happened before.
Present means something that is happening and
Future is something that will happen.
Progress simply means to continue.
So, Present Progressive means that something that is happening at the moment of being talked about.
1. Ashwin is playing the piano.
2. Samar is cleaning his room.
3. Mother is making Gulab Jamuns.
4. Father is driving us to the school.
5. The teacher is teaching us Algebra . etc.
Present Perfect
Indicates any action that is still going on , that is at the moment of talking or which has stopped recently and has an impact on the present.
1.I have done my part.
2.She has cooked for us all.
3.They have played for our school.
4. I have been learning Japanese since 2015.
5 He drove 50 kilometres today.
Past Perfect
Simply put, it is describing a past event within another past event. Its like a dream inside a dream. I don't know how many of you had that experience. I have had. :)
1. The heavy rains destroyed the gate that we constructed a month back.
2. When we reached the venue, the function had already begun.
3. I had not known the benefits of Ayurveda till I was 30.
4. The doctor took of the plaster that was put on 3 months before.
5. When she was driving back, the bridge was already closed.
Simple Past Tense
1. She went on a vacation last April.
2. The Tsunami submerged Dhanushkoti completely.
3. She was written off at first and accepted later on.
4. The 1947 partition, caused a huge communal riot.
5. The school was built in 1912.
